In this movie and lee is very particular about choosing his characters. His character says clearly about the busy life style, changing values and preferences, dissatisfaction from hob, how fast life is touching our relationship and wonderful thing is that even in between this mundane life struggle our relationship and wonderful thing is that even in between this mundane life struggle how characters are developing and enjoying their homely family life with all its ups and down. he even likes to touch the problem of old age and how a man looses his good taste of life but life moves on which is masterly shown through road traffics in this movie, (actually this movie first start with this shot.) and at the end his main character Chu decides to go with life and start afresh. Food and how amicably it is prepared plays an important role in this film. At dinner tale each character has a little announcement that brings a great change in the story.
This movie revolves around a chef' family Chu, who is famous for china's cousin and working hard in restaurant. Actually movie starts with his cooking ranges. \He was cooking at his home for his three grown - up daughters, naming: Jia- Jen(yang Kuei-Mei) who i very emotional and teaches chemistry in a school and feels and outsider in this modern world of Taipei. Middle Jia- Chien (Wu) Chien- Lien ) she wanted to be in her father's profession but because her father never agreed so landed in an air- lines company and youngest Jia- Ning (Wang Yu- wen ) who is working at Wendy- a fast food restaurant
Each character is different and of its own type. They have their own ways of thinking, life's value and expectation but living harmoniously under one roof and father Chu is always a sympathetic figure who tries to show his outmost love through Food to his daughter and loved ones. He makes feasts for his daughters regularly and prefers for them to have a better life than his own.
