The wedding

Ang Lee series of movies “The wedding banquet” came in the year 1993. The movies again hold the Chinese color, culture, food and relationship in this modern era.

This movie we can call it an entertaining family film with a great message.

The father ( Lung Sihung)is a retired Taiwanese general who is at this age needs to have a grandson to see his family line moving and the son, Wai- Tung (Winston Chao) who is working in USA and living with his male American lover Simon (Mitchell Lichtenstein).

This film centers around the Wai Tung marriage and for this reason his parents are coming to USA. Son doesn’t want to disappoint his parent nor want to leave his love so it was decided that they will take help of a woman who is living in his house as a renter, earning very little money buying selling her painting and living in a hope that one day she could get someone to marry her so she can get green card so she could be here in USA for ever. So, she was an easy bit for them. She agreed to help them.

Soon at the arrival of his parents this girl was introduced as his choice for marriage. Parents had a lot of expectation so naturally they had feeling to throw a party and call all his friends. But son asked to go for a court marriage. It was shocking for them.

Marriage was done.

And the marriage party was thrown.

Now the real twist came into the movie that the girl got pregnant and knowing everything wanted to abort the child and got a sense of guilt that she was responsible for all this.

In the mean while father got ill and was in hospital where son reveal the real situation before his mother.

Every one knew everything except the father.

Mother was ready for the abortion.

And it was decided finally that all the three will take care of the child and they will live their life happily.

It is good movie to enjoy and enrich yourself about the Chinese life and the good part of Ang Lee film is that it never gives any value judgment.
